New directions

The last 2 months were some of the busiest I've ever experienced. I am currently paying the price for it, a bit of a head cold, and about 10lb lighter than when I started, but I made it through and just when it seemed everything was about to collapse, I pulled through. I am starting my own business which will focus on creating interactive installations/displays as well as visuals for events. Certainly not what I went to college for but perhaps the evolutionary step. One has to adapt to his/her environment and so I have done just that. The market in Singapore for movie effects is (obviously) tiny. I loved every minute of my stint at Lucasfilm Animation Singapore and still wish I was there, but looking back now my life would be very very different. Just as moving out here was a major change in my life's direction, so was leaving LAS. It has been hard but it seems as though I have weathered the storm. 2011 will be much better than 2010 when it comes to the work front. This new venture will put me in full creative control and able to pursue whatever work is interesting to me, which is what I wanted from day 1. The experience I gained at LAS set the foundation and now it's up to me to make a name for myself. Stay tuned.

Project Singa

Got invited to participate in a live drawing ...thing at Funan mall for the launch of ProjectSinga's vinyl collectible figures and got to doodle on a big print of Singa the lion.

They gave me a box set of the figures. It was nice to just draw

two pieces that I created for a phone launch event in Singapore. Created in VVVV. (www.vvvv.org). Expressions were used to create and animate the second piece.

These are the first two things I have made in vvvv, so I am very excited at what is to come. I always wish that I could program and so vvvv is nice because of it's node based system. minimal coding, maximal making cool stuff.

I made a script in after effects to make a spirograph like design. This was used in my performance at the Heineken Green Room on May 22nd. I created all of the art for the event with the help of Lucas from Bunch Design. It was a really rewarding moment when I walked to the venue (which was massive) and saw all of my work on literally every square inch of the space. The signage, the posters, the walls, the staff uniforms, the fliers, but most of all the DJ booth. It was a huge print about 10 feet across that was illuminated from behind. I am definitely going to try to get some for myself haha.

Lucas and I were also tasked with creating and performing the visuals for the DJ set. Kode9 is a fairly famous international act so we had to deliver a performance of similar impact. I will post about it when I get the pictures and video from the event but I will say that it went far better than I could have imagined. Truly one of the best nights of my life.
